Celebrate Together during this year’s NSW Seniors Festival
As part of this year's NSW Seniors Festival (1 to 12 February 2023), we invite members of the local community to get out and about to enjoy one of the area’s most beautiful parks, rich with flora, fauna and history – Woronora Memorial Park.
In keeping with the theme of “celebrate together,” it’s a great time to lace up those walking shoes and invite friends, family, fellow historians and your community groups and take a self-guided tour through our beautiful grounds.
Woronora Memorial Park has been a community icon for close to 130 years, holding thousands of stories of locals passed, many with their own connection to residents today. There is a strong military presence within the park, legends with accolades and others with sad chronicles.
The park is also home to some beautifully crafted memorials, honouring missing persons, military personnel, police and those who gift their bodies to science. Among the flora, visitors can marvel at the majestic rose gardens, which boast up to 10,000 roses when in full bloom, as well as many of the stunning native plants and trees not found in any other cemetery.
Woronora Memorial Park offers a flat, smooth walking trail, is wheelchair friendly and accommodates all fitness levels. We welcome dogs on leashes (please pick up after your pets) and accessible facilities are available around the park for your convenience.
The historic Celeste Cottage café offers a variety of refreshments, and all self-guided walkers to the park will receive a complimentary tea or coffee during NSW Seniors Festival – please redeem the voucher attached to the Seniors Festival flyer.
The self-guided tour takes approximately one to two hours to complete, but you may choose to take some extra time to visit other various points of interest or do the tour in a few visits.
Tour maps can be obtained at the administration office, Celeste Cottage café or downloaded here.
Of course, the walk is available to do at any time of the year! However, your complimentary refreshments are only valid during Seniors Festival (1 to 12 February and during Celeste Cottage café opening hours 9am – 2pm, Monday to Friday).
