As part of the 2023 Sutherland Shire Citizens' Heritage Festival, we invite you to come and explore the natural beauty and rich history of Woronora Memorial Park.

Get ready to step back in time and discover the rich heritage of Woronora Memorial Park! Explore our newly refurbished chapels and old crematorium, along with a showcase of historic photos and artefacts. In keeping with the theme of this year's Heritage month, which is "Sharing Stories", we will share stories of the people, traditions, and landmarks that have shaped our community. 

With a variety of scenic walking trails, crematorium tours, historical videos, beautiful gardens, and historic monuments, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Don't miss your chance to immerse yourself in the past and learn about the people and events that have shaped Woronora Memorial Park into the cemetery it is today!


Discovery Day Program - Saturday 22 April, 2023 | 10am - 3pm


Tours (running every hour)
  • 10.05am: Shuttle Bus from Celeste Cottage to visit the chapels

  • 10.10am Chapels tours and walk through old crematorium and history display.

  • 10.35am Board shuttle bus to visit the new crematorium 

  • 11.00am Board shuttle bus back to Celeste Cottage and enjoy complimentary refreshments before Heritage Bus departs for next venue at 11.05am

Tours run at 11.05am, 12.05pm, 1.05pm and 2.05pm
How to get to Woronora Memorial Park for Discovery Day?

Jump on the Sutherland Shire Citizen's Heritage Bus, departing from the Tramway Museum on the hour from 10am, and arriving at Woronora Memorial Park every hour from 10.05am. Check the Heritage Festival bus timetable for more details.

Woronora Memorial Park is located at 121 Linden St, Sutherland and is easily accessible by train or car.

Explore the natural beauty and rich history of Woronora Memorial Park on a self-guided walking tour! Discover hidden gems and learn about the area's fascinating past as you wander through scenic paths and tranquil gardens. With a handy map to lead the way, you'll be able to explore at your own pace and take in the sights and sounds of the park at your leisure.

All special graves are marked with a QR code so you can listen to these fascinating stories.

Collect your free walking map from the cemetery reception or Celeste Cafe throughout Heritage Festival month and follow the signs to visit interesting graves. Walking Guides will be available on Discovery Day. Alternatively, you can print your own walking map by downloading a copy here.

WMP Walking Tour
🚶 Join a free guided tour with the Sutherland Shire Military History Club.

Join local history expert Clive Baker and other guides from the Shire Military History Club and discover the interesting military and civilian people of the Shire now resting in Woronora Memorial Park. With four different tours to choose from throughout Heritage month (join one or join them all) there is much to learn about the stories behind these veterans and other citizens who have served our country in war and peace.

Heritage festival tour dates

  • 27 April -  A special tour will be held following the ANZAC Memorial service (leaving 11am)
  • 1 May
  • 7 May
  • 16 May

Gather at Celeste Cottage Café at 9.30am for 10am start.

Complimentary refreshments for participants. BYO water bottle and wear hat, suncream and comfortable shoes.

🚶Anzac Memorial Service and History Tour - Thursday 27th April at 10am.

Honour those who served our country at a special memorial service to be held at the War Memorial on Thursday 27 April at 10am.

All are welcome to a special service conducted by the Sutherland Shire Military History Club, followed by light refreshments at the Celeste Cottage Cafe. If you're looking for more, take a stroll and learn about the veterans interred at Woronora, take part in a free guided tour, following refreshments.
