Important Covid-19 Update

23 February 2022

As the current COVID situation continues to evolve, Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries NSW is doing everything possible to limit disruption to services and keep our families, employees and community safe.

Some staff are working remotely and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we resolve issues locally. If you are planning a funeral service, we urge you to engage with us as early as possible so that we can continue to deliver the best outcomes for families at their time of need.

As a reminder, we ask all visitors to our cemetery sites to ensure they comply with the current NSW Health restrictions.

Compliance with NSW Health Restrictions

The following measures apply to funerals in Greater Sydney and Hunter/Newcastle.

  • No restrictions on unvaccinated people attending funerals
  • No attendance or density limits on funerals
  • Masks are highly encouraged for indoor settings including Chapels where you cannot maintain a safe distance from other and during family appointments.
  • Singing permitted, both performers and attendees

South Chapel: 120 attendees

West Chapel: Temporarily Closed

The West chapels at our Eastern Suburbs and Woronora Memorial Parks will be closed temporarily, due to their smaller size capacity being under 100sqm. During these times of increased COVID case numbers, there is a higher risk of transmission for attendees, Funeral Directors and staff. The service hours of our South Chapels will be extended as needed. Please enquire if all other booking times appear unavailable.

We thank you for working with us during these difficult times. SMCNSW would also like to thank you for your continued adherence to the Government’s public health orders. For the latest COVID-19 information from Service NSW please click here.
